Haze: Slight improvement in API readings

KUALA LUMPUR: The Air Pollutant Index (API) readings today showed slight improvements at eight areas while Langkawi remained highest with a reading of 165 as of noon.

Although the API of Langkawi remained highest, the reading has reduced slightly compared to 173 as at 10am.

According to the Department of Environment (DOE) portal, the other seven areas are Kuala Selangor (133), Pasir Gudang (126), Port Klang (125), Seri Manjung (121), Shah Alam (115), Kota Tinggi and Bakar Arang, Sg Petani (101).

Meanwhile, the four stations which showed an increase in its reading are Larkin Lama (131), Kangar (113), Universiti Sains Malaysia (110), and Port Dickson (110).

Also experiencing API in the same category are Bandaraya Melaka and Bukit Rambai (110); Banting (107), Seberang Jaya 2 (105) and Putrajaya (101).

Meanwhile in Geortge Town, senior citizens and Penangites were adamant with their "morning walks and exercise" at the Penang Municipal park amidst the thick smoke shrouding the island today.

However, this time they came prepared with face masks to protect themselves from the haze.

The air pollution level is categorised as — good (zero to 50), moderate (51-100), unhealthy (101 to 200), very unhealthy (201-300) and hazardous (301 and more).
