Orang Asli families wait to identify remains of little girl

GUA MUSANG: A post mortem examination on the remains of a little girl, believed to be one of the seven missing Orang Asli children missing for more than a month in Pos Tohoi here, was completed last night.

All that is left now are for six families to identify the remains at the Gua Musang Hospital mortuary.

As of 10am, two of the families from Kg Penad have arrived at the police headquarters, while four others are said to be on their way.

All six will be brought to the mortuary by the police for the identification process.

District police chief Superintendent Saiful Bahri Abdullah said the families, four from Kg Penad and two from Kg Gawin, were informed last night.

"We gathered those from Kg Penad at Pos Tohoi last night itself, while those from Kg Gawin should have arrived this morning, since it takes a longer time from Gawin," he said.

Saiful is expected to hold a press conference at the hospital mortuary at noon.

On August 26, seven pupils from SK Pos Tohoi - six girls and a boy are aged between seven and 11, were believed to have fled into a nearby jungle because they feared punishment for swimming in a river without permission.

Since then, the authorities had launched numerous search parties, including army personnel to track them down, all to no avail.

A possible breakthrough was made last night when a villager discovered the remains of a girl in a river near the school, only about 500m from where they were last seen.

The body was found with its foot trapped on a tree branch.
