KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will be leading a Palm Oil Promotion Mission to the United States (US) from Oct 14 to 15, 2015.
The delegation comprises representatives from the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and the private sector.
The mission is aimed at strengthening palm oil exports to the US and promoting business linkages between the private sector in Malaysia and the U.S.
According to a statement from the Ministry, Uggah will officiate and deliver a keynote address at the Global Oils and Fats Forum (GOFF) 2015 in Los Angeles on Oct 14.
The event, jointly organised by MPOB and MPOC, is aimed at, among others, promoting palm oil trade through dissemination of information on the latest developments in the palm oil industry to manufacturers and importers.
GOFF 2015 is expected to be attended by 100 participants comprising mostly US private sector representatives.
In addition, the minister will convene discussions with private sector representatives aimed at exploring opportunities to further strengthen exports of palm oil products and other commodity products.
The US is Malaysia’s fifth largest global export destination for palm oil and palm oil products with an export value of RM4 billion in 2014.
Exports to the US accounted for 4.5 per cent of total global exports of palm oil products. For the period of January to June 2015, exports of Malaysian palm oil products to the US were valued at RM783.09 million. Major palm oil products exported to the US in 2014 were Refined, Bleached and Deodorised (RBD) palm oil, RBD palm olein and RBD palm stearin.
Other commodity products exported to the US in 2014 included timber and timber products valued at RM2.44 billion, rubber and rubber products (RM4.48 billion), cocoa products (RM552.55 million) and pepper products (RM3.33 million). -- Bernama
