Eighty CCTVs installed in Shah Alam Stadium

SHAH ALAM: Eighty closed-circuit television (CCTVs) cameras have been installed by Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohammad Saad said the CCTV cameras were set up two weeks ago, costing about RM2.5 million.

He said he and Tan Sri Abd Karim Munisar, the chairman of the Sultan Selangor's Cup visited the stadium to check on the functions, last week after the set up.

"The decision to install CCTVs cameras was not based on the recent incident where a group of individuals had taken matters into their own hands by launching flares, smoke bombs, and rocket fireworks onto the field during the Malaysia - Saudi Arabia World Cup qualifiers match last month.

"We had long planned to install CCTVs cameras to beef up the security level in and out of the stadium. Also, today will be installing scoreboards and it is expected to be done in three days," he said at a press conference after he launched the "Human Capital Development Programme" at Wisma MBSA.

At the moment, he said, they are testing the system by monitoring the employees who are working in the stadium.

He said once the scoreboard is fixed, they hope the with new CCTVs cameras they are able to project live images of any riots or activities happening in and around the stadium where the authorities can quickly.

"After the installation, we hope we can begin to use the system to monitor our upcoming football match between Selangor and T-Team, this week," he said.

Meanwhile, he said, MBSA do not have the power to take action against these foreign child beggars which have been rampant in the streets of Shah Alam.

He said if they are foreigners, they fall under the Immigration Department.

"We have been receiving a lot of complains but it is beyond our jurisdiction. We can only chase them away," he said.

At the event, MBSA has introduced 'Human Capital Development Program', for its staff.

Purpose of the programme to ensure every member of staff practice good working habits so they could be more competent and maintain a positive attitude.
