Oct 18 illegal rally still a go, says Jamal

KUALA LUMPUR: The "Himpunan Selamatkan Negeri Selangor Daripada Pakatan Cacar Marba" rally is still on despite police disapproval.

"It's still on," said Malay non-governmental organisations coalition head Datuk Jamal Md Yunos when contacted by New Straits Times.

The rally is slated to be held in front of Spectrum Mall in Ampang Jaya, tomorrow at 3pm.

"Our responsibility is to voice out the rakyat's frustration over the failures of the Selangor state government in providing the welfare of the citizens in Selangor. It's not our problem that our application to hold the rally was disapproved by the police," said Jamal, who applied for the rally permit on Oct 7.

Jamal said, the Selangor government, among others, has failed to overcome the perpetual water issue in housing areas, as well as putting Selangor as the state with the highest dengue cases.

He added that its Menteri Besar Azmin Ali is not transparent about the spending of Selangor's state fund.

"Azmin must be answerable to where has the state's fund gone when there are a lot of issues in Selangor are not solved," he said.

Meanwhile, Ampang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairuddin Saad urged the public not to join the rally as it is considered illegal, under the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012.

"The MPAJ disallowed its land around the Spectrum mall to be used for the rally and therefore we cannot approve the rally as it does not comply with PAA regulations where there must be an approval by the land owner to hold the rally," said Khairuddin when contacted by News Straits Times.

He warned the organisers that police will take action to those who attend the rally tomorrow.
