Police believe missing headmistress still in the forest

KUALA LUMPUR: Police believed that one headmistress Jashiah Rabu, 53, who was reported missing since Oct 23 is still somewhere in the dense forest near Orang Asli village at Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor, despite a possibility that she might have gone out of the forest.

Hulu Selangor police chief Supt R. Supramaniam said, there's no strong evident that suggest Jashiah had walked out of the forest and went somewhere else.

"Jashiah was last seen knocking on villagers’ door asking for food on Saturday (a day after she went missing) but according to the villagers, she disappeared into the forest again afterward. That was the last time anybody ever saw her," said Supramaniam when contacted by the New Straits Times.

"Jashiah's movement were likely to be limited due to fatigue. If she were to be out of the forest, the locals would have found her."

Yesterday, the K-9 unit had traced footprints believed to be that of the SK Taman Keramat Satu headmistress, near an empty hut in a rubber plantation area, 2km from the search and rescue operation centre, but the traces stopped there.

In the search and rescue (SAR) operation which is entering the seventh day, Supramaniam said, 90 personnel from the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Department, Forest Rangers, District Education Office, K-9 unit and villagers were involved in the SAR operation that began at 9am today.

"The search is still on-going and there is no discussion to cease the operation yet," he said.
