SPM candidate attacked by classmate with penknife

TELUK INTAN: A SPM candidate was attacked with a penknife by his classmate after he sat for the English 1 paper at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hutan Melintang near here today.

In the 10am incident, B. Previen was stabbed and slashed several times after quarrelling with the suspect outside the classroom.

A witness, who declined to be named, said he saw the suspect armed with a penknife charging at the bleeding victim.

“We immediately alerted our teachers and the victim was sent to Teluk Intan Hospital (HTI),” he said when met at the school.

The victim's father T. Balan, 57, said his son was being treated in the intensive care unit but was in stable condition.

Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed the incident and said that the suspect had been absent from school for three months due to depression.

He said the suspect was detained for further investigations at Hutan Melintang police station.
