Arul and ex-1MDB boss to face PAC soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will summon former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) CEO Datuk Shahrul Halmi and its current president Arul Kanda to appear before the bipartisan panel on Nov 25 and Dec 1, respectively.

PAC chairman Hasan Arifin said letters have been sent out to both instructing them to attend the proceeding.

"They will have to attend the proceedings," he told reporters at the parliament lobby today.

Asked if PAC will summon business tycoon Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low for the proceedings, Hasan said they will have to look at the legal aspects before summoning him.

"First we will call Shahrul, followed by Arul. Jho Low does not directly hold a post in 1MDB, so we will have to look at the legal aspects before taking the next step," he said.

He said the present PAC team will follow the proceedings set by former chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who left the committee after being appointed deputy home minister in July.

The Auditor-General is currently examining through 1MDB's accounts, with a report expected to be submitted to Parliament by the year-end.
