Normalcy returns to Tapah after week-long 'murder drama'

TAPAH: After a week of frenzied activity following the gruesome murder of four people at a house in Jalan Pahang here, things in the sleepy town of Tapah are gradually returning to normal.

Although members of the public are still gathering at the crime scene to take a peek at what has been described as Tapah’s house of horrors’, there was none of the heaving crowds which amassed at the scene the whole of last week.

A check by the New Straits Times here today showed that the crime scene was still off limits to the public, with police cordoning off the area with yellow tape.

Save for the suspects’ dogs and chickens, no activities can be seen at the house, said to be where the missing persons were killed.

A snack seller, whose stall is located some 50m from the suspects’ dilapidated wooden house, said things had slowed down a bit at the scene.

"Compared to the initial stage when news first broke, people now only gather here in the evening and share the latest news on the case," said the man, who declined to be named.

Asked if business at his stall has picked up since news of the gruesome murder broke, the man said: "The empty space in front of my stall has been taken up by vehicles of those wanting to take a peek at the crime scene.

“With no space to park, my customers are giving my stall the miss," he grumbled.

It was earlier reported that the four, father, 57, mother, 54 and two sons, aged 20 and 17, were detained on Oct 26 in connection with the possible murders.

Police had last Wednesday arrested the four suspects for their suspected involvement in the killing of four people.

The authorities believed that most, if not all, the murders were committed in the family home, located around 50m from the main road.

Some of the victims were believed to have had their remains burnt and discarded in a stream behind the house.
