Asean community can help strengthen Malaysia- Indonesia ties

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang today expressed optimism that the establishment of the ASEAN Community can help strengthen Malaysia-Indonesia bilateral relations.

The two countries would be able to determine the future of their generations to come through better understanding, he said.

“With such understanding, parliament to parliament, government to government and people to people, we can resolve any problem at all in a neighbourly way,” he said.

Abu Zahar spoke to reporters after a delegation led by the deputy speaker of the Indonesian parliament, Osman Sapta Odang, called on him at his office here.

The visitors were from five political parties, namely Parti Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKP), Parti Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP), Dewan Perwakilan Daerah (DPD), Golongan Karya and Parti Nurani Rakyat (HANURA).

Osman, when approached by reporters, said Indonesia hoped that the ASEAN Summit and Related Summits would be successful and strengthen relations between Malaysia and Indonesia. --Bernama
