Higher Education Ministry mulls vaping ban on university campuses

PUTRAJAYA: The Higher Education Ministry is mulling a ban on vape and e-cigarettes on university campuses.

Its minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said he had been briefed by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia yesterday on the impact of vaping on university students, which had become a popular trend nowadays.

He said the side effects of vaping were not limited to the health aspect, but also on the social perspective.

In this regards, he said, UKM would conduct a thorough study on the usage of vape among the students and its implications.

"The study will take about six months to complete and the findings will be tabled to the Cabinet," he told reporters after the launch of the Asean Young Quality Assurance Officers Forum And Roundtable Meeting today.

Idris said he would also discuss with vice-chancellors from other universities on the vape issues.
