Selayang Hospital treated my disabled brother with love

I AM writing to express my gratitude to the employees of Selayang General Hospital, particularly those in the opthalmology and anaesthesiology departments as well as all involved in the treatment of my brother, Azhar Isa.

Azhar is disabled. He was
admitted to Ward 6B from Oct 6 to
26 for treatment for an eye condition.

At the hospital, he was treated with warmth and exceptional
care, both before and after his surgery.

Everyone, from doctors and nurses to the security guards, showed him compassion and provided exceptional care for an
individual with multiple disabilities.

In recent years, we have seen a lot of news on the lack of care towards persons with disabilities.

My experience with my brother has often led to frustrating interactions with people who have demonstrated a lack of understanding for people with disabilities.

People with disabilities have a lot to contribute and everybody has the right to be treated with respect and fairness.

Instilling this awareness in people requires engagement with all walks of life.

However, a good starting point would be to implement policies of equality, especially in public
service departments.

It should be implemented to
address and recognise these
disabled people and to prioritise the accommodation to suit their needs.

Selayang General Hospital workers have shown exemplary attitude. It’s a benchmark for other public service departments.

To all who helped my brother, even briefly, my family and I couldn’t have asked for more.
