Brothers sent for mental evaluation over mother's murder

KUALA LUMPUR: Two siblings who were remanded following the death of their mother were sent for a month-long psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta (HBUK) today.

The duo, aged 20 and 25, who were arrested following the death of their 63-year-old mother at an apartment in Bandar Seri Permaisuri, Cheras after trying to stop a fight between them.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Chong Kok Sin said both undergraduates of International Islamic University of Malaysia in Gombak and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia in Nilai respectively, were sent to HBUK today for their physchological evaluation.

On Nov 11, it was reported that the siblings were picked up following the death of their mother while trying to stop a fight between them.

The authorities found out about the incident when they were alerted by a neighbour and sought the assistance of firemen to break open the door of the apartment.

The siblings were then remanded for six days to assist in the probe of the murder of their mother.

Chong said a magistrate issued the remand order at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital where the siblings were undergoing a battery of tests with psychiatrists.
