IPOH: The decision to sack Gopeng wanita chief Datuk Hamidah Osman was based on reports sent by the Gopeng division to the party’s disciplinary board, said Perak Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Zambry who is also Perak menteri besar, said the state Umno respected the top leadership’s decision to expel Hamidah on disciplinary grounds.
“I do not want to comment further on this as the decision was made by the party headquarters.
“The post vacated by Hamidah will likely be filled by her deputy Feridah Zakaria ,” he told a press conference here today.
Hamidah's sacking was announced by party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak after chairing the party's supreme council meeting last night.
Hamidah had since May been a vocal critic of Najib, who is also prime minister, and called for his resignation.
On Sept 9, Umno had sent a show-cause letter to her for inviting former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to a dialogue session in Ipoh.
Hamidah had also openly criticised Zambry in her personal Facebook page.
Her sacking follows that of Langkawi Umno member Anina Saadudin, who was also expelled after she took Najib to court over a RM2.6 billion political donation.
