Sabah assembly begins debating motion on Nurul, Tian Chua - Kiram meeting

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Assembly sitting has begun debating a special motion tabled to discuss the meeting between PKR vice-presidents Nurul Izzah Anwar and Tian Chua with Jacel Kiram.

Jacel is the daughter of the late Jamalul Kiram, the self-proclaimed Sulu Sultan who ordered the armed intrusion to claim Sabah in Lahad Datu in 2013.

The motion was tabled by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Raymond Tan Shu Kiah and was passed by the majority after Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnson found it necessary given the wide public interest on the topic.

Tan in his motion called for Nurul and Tian Chua to be banned from entering Sabah while Jacel and those who support the clause of the self-proclaimed Sulu Sultanate to be barred from entering the country.

A probe and legal action should also be taken against Nurul and Tian Chua for what they have done, he stressed.

"Many people are still traumatised because of the dark period of our history and suddenly we see postings in social media accounts about the meeting.

"This also include a photograph of Nurul and Jacel holding a card or placard to call for the release of Datuk Seri Anwar (Ibrahim)," he said in thanking the motion.
