Govt to monitor 3PAN programme to curb abuse of PPR flats ownership

KUALA LUMPUR: The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government ministry's National Public Housing Management Corporation (3PAN) programme will better monitor and prevent misuse of low cost PPR flats in the country.

Its minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the ministry and the relevant department had received complaints on PPR flat owners renting out their premises to others, like foreigners.

"Even if the case occurs in small-scale, it is not fair to the other lower income families who are waiting to be housed," he told reporters at the #TanyaGomen talk on "Can the lower income group afford to own a house?" here today.

Rahman said the ministry would conduct a survey between six and 12 months on PPR flats to identify those that had been illegally occupied.

"We will then look into actions that can be taken against the wrongdoers."

On a related matter, Rahman said irresponsible investors who cause housing prices to increase should stay away from the housing market.

He also said the government must step in in a big way to build low cost housing to ease the burden of the public.
