No regrets, says Penang DAP man over support of BN's motion

GEORGE TOWN: Embattled DAP Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu has reiterated that he had no regrets supporting Barisan Nasional's motion on land reclamation at last week's state assembly sitting.

Speaking in public for the first time after the controversy, Teh however said his decision to quit party post stands.

"I am speaking out for the interest of the people... I have no regrets doing what I did.

"But, as a party man, I have to be responsible to my party, thus my decision to resign," he told reporters this morning.

Teh said although he was asked by state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow to re-consider his decision, he stood his ground.

"Come what may, I will continue to be in DAP and speak out on what I strongly believe in," he added.

Teh broke party ranks when he voted in favour of the motion brought by Pulau Betong assemblyman Muhammad Farid Saad.

Besides him, five PKR assemblymen also abstained from voting, earning the wrath of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Teh will be contesting in the party's state polls tomorrow.

A total of 48 candidates are vying for the 15 spots in the state committee.
