DAP proud of its status as opposition party

GEORGE TOWN: In a veiled dig aimed at its one time ally, the DAP said that it was proud to have survived as an opposition party.

The party’s secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng said that DAP was also not confused as to its role as an opposition party.

"We are able to differentiate friends and enemies. Still they want to work with Umno,” he said without naming names but with clear reference as to which party it was aimed for.

"Let me be clear that we are only willing to work with parties that work for the rakyat," he told the 700-odd members at the state DAP convention at Equatorial Hotel here today.

DAP unilaterally announced that the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition was longer in existence

after Pas went against their common policy framework, by pushing for the Islamic penal code to be implemented in Kelantan.

Following the demise of PR, Pakatan Harapan with DAP, PKR and Pas splinter group, Parti Amanah Negara was formed.

The Penang government also earned the ire of Pas members, after it planned to remove some 1,100 members from the state's Village Security Development Committee. The DAP-led government also replaced all Pas government officials to Amanah members.
