A body found in Sg Besi, believe to be 1 of 3 missing kids

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a sad, sombre atmosphere at the banks of Sungai Kuyoh in Sungai Besi, here, when the mother of one of three boys feared drown in the river was shown a picture of a body found by rescuers earlier today.

The woman in her 40s was seen crying and wailing "anak aku... anak aku..." upon being shown the picture by a police officer about 11.15am.

Deputy city police chief Datuk Law Hong Soon said a search and rescue party found the body in Tasik Muhibbah about 10.30am today.

It is learnt that authorities believe that the remains belong to Remy Julian Raymond Joe, 14.

However, it has yet to be confirmed, pending proper identification process.

Law said the lake where they found the body was located some 30km away from where the boys went missing.

The incident yesterday saw three boys aged between 9 and 14 feared drowned after they were swept away by a strong surge of water while swimming in the river about 5.30pm.

The victims and five other boys, all of whom live at the Sungai Besi army camp some 100m from the spot where they went missing, had earlier in the day gone fishing.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Chong Kok Sin had said the boys went into the river to release a fishing hook, then decided to have a swim.

When the incident happened, five of them managed to swim to safety.

The army and civilian authorities have set up a tactical base for the SAR operation at the river bank in front of the military camp.

It is learnt that Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein will visit the families there later today.
