Body believed to be Zulkarnain found off Pulau Kapas

KUALA TERENGGANU: The body of a man, believed to be that of businessman Zulkarnain Mohamed Zubir, 44, was found floating in waters off Pulau Kapas here earlier today.

The body, clad in a pair of black shorts, was found by fishermen about 16km from where the incident happened, at around 4pm.

Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Muhammad Basri Kamarazaman said that three boats including from the Marine Police, the Malaysian Maritime Department and the state Fire and Rescue Department were despatched to the location where the body was found at 4.34pm.

He said that the body was taken to the Marang Fishing Jetty and handed over to police for further course of action including identification.

"The operation to find and locate the victim who was missing for 30 hours began at 11.30am yesterday and ended at 6pm just now.

"The body was then sent to the Forensics Department of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) for post-mortem," he said.

Zulkarnain was on holiday with his wife, Nora Elina Abdul Khalil, 44, and their two children, ages 9 and 11, from Petaling Jaya, when he was unexpectedly slammed by heavy waves while wading in the ocean at Pantai Batu Burok.

Meanwhile, Nora Elina and several family members were seen arriving at the Forensics Department for the identification process.
