Violinist extraordinaire Dennis Lau returns with The Journey [VIDEO]

PETALING JAYA: Accomplished electric violinist and songwriter Dennis Lau shares his musical adventure in The Journey.

This follow-up album to his 2009 debut record Diversify, is a compilation of 10 tunes which he had composed over the years.

“The Journey is like a personal album which charts my musical adventure from the age of 3 when I first started learning to play the piano up till now,” he said when met after the launch of the album in Bandar Sunway today.

The album which took five years to complete also features a number of collaborations with local artistes including Jojo Struys, Abigail Chew, Michael Leaner, Soo Wincci, Edmond Chong, Yuri Wong and Moots.

Lau also wrote the lyrics to one of the tracks My Mama Says, which features the 11-year-old award-winning actress Crystal Lee on vocals.

“I was very much involved in the making of the album. There were challenges and obstacles but those elements help to make you a better artiste and more informed in the future. And I am thankful that I worked with the right people for this album,” he said.

Having performed for royals, the 30-year-old has shared the stage with the who’s who of the local music scene like Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, Ning Baizura, Syafinaz Selamat, Francissca Peter, Jimmy Sax and Noryn Aziz.

Lau said Malaysia has a pool of talented local acts who needed international exposure that they rightly deserve.

“For many, the problem lies in networking. We have artistes who are very diverse in their craft but they don’t have the resources to put themselves out there,” he said, hoping that all parties including music organisers and promoters would come forward to assist these young talents.

On a lighter note, the musician revealed that he was not much of a vocalist but lent his vocals anyway in one of the tracks Don’t You Wanna Know (featuring Soo Wincci and Koujee Beatbox).

The Journey is available at all major music stores and on iTunes.
