Puteri wants permanent secretariat to help job-seekers

KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Umno has proposed the establishment of a permanent secretariat that could help unemployed graduates seek suitable jobs.

"The Labour Department and Human Resources Development Fund should be transformed and strengthened.

"They should set up the secretariat and play the role as a match maker for graduates and employers, which are now being handled by private career placement agencies," said its Information chief Haryaty Hamzah, from the Kota Melaka division.

She said the secretariat must have a complete database on job seekers and opprtunities while its staff should be customer-friendly and support Umno.

She said the comprehensive database should have the information on the graduates' qualifications, potential and specific skills and job scope.

"Young people prefer to seek jobs through the Internet and that is why they register themselves with private employment agencies, as they are more efficient," she said when debating on the economic motion at Umno general assembly at Putra World Trade Centre here today.
