You can't force reconciliation, says Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR: Reconciliation between the top two Umno leaders is something that cannot be forced, said Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said even though Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak shared a handshake with his deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, on stage last night at the party's general assembly, reconciliation needed time.

"That handshake was the start of them mending bridges, however, the disagreement they had might cause awkwardness.

"Reconciliation is not something that you can force, it needs time. However, it is the hope of the party for them to mend ties," he said.

Khairy added that the party needed to look forward and not take a step backwards.

"The hope for them to reconcile is based on the spirit of togetherness that the party has held on to.

"We should look forward and not look back," he told reporters at a press conference today.
