'Ali Tinju does not represent veterans'

IPOH: The state Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran’s Association (PVATM) today has called for disciplinary action to be taken against Mohd Ali Baharom for his disgraceful conduct recently.

Its vice-president Lieutenant Commander (retired) Jayah Said said Ali also known as 'Ali Tinju' was contradicting the principles adopted by veterans of the Armed Forces.

“I will recommend to the association’s executive council to terminate his (Ali) membership following his disgraceful action and false claim of representing retired servicemen.

“We also received complaints in the association nationwide,” he said during a press conference here.

He also stressed that Ali Tinju is not the president of PVATM and he was merely a member.

“He is only a former president of the now-defunct Selangor Malay Army Veterans Association which has had its registration cancelled by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) last year.

“Thus, he does not represent us in anything and his is not speaking on behalf of us.

“The government should take all necessary actions in accordance with the law against him,” he said.

Jayah said the controversial actions by Ali Tinju have tarnished the image of Malaysian armed forces veterans as a whole.

“I hope the people and the media will not relate Ali Tinju with the veterans as his racial sentiments can affect efforts by the government to unite the people of all races nationwide,” he said.
