Adenan hints Sarawak state election by March

KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem hinted that the state election will be held in March.

Speaking at the New Year’s Eve celebrations and the countdown last night to a toll-free Sarawak at the Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Mohammad Salahuddin bridge toll plaza, here, he called on Sarawakians to give him five more years as chief minister.

“The government has fulfilled its promise to abolish toll in the state and I want to see the people of Sarawak fulfil their promises to the government in three months’ time.

“If we can keep our promises, Sarawak will become a peaceful and prosperous state,” he said adding that he had received the approval of UMNO leaders that the party would not be spreading its wings in Sarawak.

“I also want DAP, PKR and other parties from peninsular to not come to Sarawak. We know Sarawak better than them, so let us lead our own state.”

Adenan said the representatives of Pantai Damai, Satok and Samariang seats would be re-nominated in the coming election.

At the ceremony, Adenan also announced the abolition of the toll plaza effective midnight tonight, which means that the state is now toll-free.--BERNAMA
