Female cop, two others injured after being hit by Mat Rempits in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Three police constables on duty, including a woman were injured early today when two Mat Rempits rammed their machine into the officers.

The trio, were stationed in a routine road block operations on the new year eve, sustained bodily injuries when the motorcyclists collided with them in the 4am incident.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Alatrash Wahid said the both the rider and pillion rider, aged 21 and 19 respectively were arrested on the spot at Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu near the Penang Bridge.

"The riders had zigzagged in heavy traffic flow before the losing control of their motorcycle and colliding with the two policemen and policewoman.

"The trio had facial and limb injuries, while the riders also suffered injuries. They were sent to Penang Hospital for treatment," Mior said.

He said the 30 year-old police woman and 24-year-old police man had been discharged a few hours later but the 43-year-old man had a fractured leg and remained warded.

Mior said the duo had been released on police bail. The case has been classified as reckless driving.
