Two policemen injured after police chase ends in crash

KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a high speed chase between a police patrol car and a pickup truck is making rounds on social media.

The 28-seconds video clip was shared on the Edisi Siasat Telegram group.

Following the chase, two policemen were injured when a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) they were in skidded while chasing a suspect's vehicle at KM215 on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound near Taiping on Monday.

On Friday, Berita Harian reported that two policemen, a corporal and a lance corporal aged 38 and 29, were involved in the accident when the MPV they were in hit a metal object thrown from the vehicle driven by the suspect.

In the 6.50am incident, the policemen involved received an instruction from the district control centre at the Taiping district police headquarters (IPD) to assist five other police MPV patrol cars from the Ipoh IPD in an effort to stop the suspect's vehicle.

It is learnt that the suspects were pursued by the police patrol car for more than 50km from the North Ipoh Toll Plaza past the Changkat Jering Toll Plaza in Taiping.

Policemen issued three warnings through a loudspeaker, asking the suspect to stop the vehicle, but were ignored before the suspect threw the metal object.

The object thrown at the MPV hit the bottom of the vehicle, causing it to lose control and spin around before skidding to the left side of the road and crashing into the road barrier.

One of the policemen sustained a head injury and scratches on his leg, while the other suffered chest and neck injuries, along with minor injuries to the right hand.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri when contacted confirmed the incident but said the suspect, however, managed to escape.
