Emergency JPAM teams at all recreational areas nationwide

KUALA PILAH: The Malaysian Civil Defence Department (JPAM) will station emergency rescue teams at all recreational areas nationwide, starting this year.

Its director-general Ogu Salim Omar said the measure would be taken to ensure the safety of visitors, especially during the weekends, public and school holidays.

The setting up of the teams are in line with the government's order, following the increasing number of death cases at recreational areas.

"At the moment, JPAM has stationed its personnel at 38 beach resorts across the country, but (now) we'll do the same for recreational parks" he said after the launch event of the Negri Sembilan JPAM Emergency Rescue Team, held at Hutan Lipur Ulu Bendul here today.

He added that besides Ulu Bendul, another team had been stationed at Gunung Datuk Recreational Park in Rembau.

The teams, which consists of six to eight personnel will be on duty from 8am to 6pm during weekends, public and school holidays.

Orgu said the Forestry Department supported the move by paying allowances to the teams.
