Johor govt to focus on providing medium-cost homes

KOTA TINGGI: The Johor government wants to focus on providing affordable housing not just for the low-income group but also those in the middle income bracket.

Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said it was high time the state government focused on providing medium-cost homes for the middle-income earners as there was a demand for quality housing from this group.

He said the matter would be addressed in an upcoming housing collaboration between the state government and the company behind the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Programme (PR1MA).

"The state government has embarked on the Johor Affordable Housing programme or RMMJ, which provides homes that cost RM150,000 and less.

"But it is about time that we look at the middle income group and their housing needs.

"The state government will discuss with PR1MA for a (venture) which will be announced and carried out in two to three months' time," said Khaled when launching the Johor Affordable Housing project in Taman Desaru Utama, Bandar Penawar, here.

Khaled said ideally, a medium-cost home in the upcoming venture should range between RM300,000 and RM150,000. However, those details were still being ironed out.
