Accept TPP or become like North Korea: Sarawak CM

KUCHING: The adoption of Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPP) will open up greater economic opportunities in Malaysia and enhance the country's competitive edge.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, in announcing the Sarawak government’s support for the country's participation in TPP, called upon the people to be receptive to changes and refrain from isolating themselves from the current global trading system.

Adenan said the country was left with no options but to accept the changes to avoid from being left behind in the world market.

“The state government fully supports the TPP as it opens up economic opportunities and creates a competitive edge in the global economy.

“We must be ready and cannot isolate ourselves from these changes otherwise we will end up like North Korea,” said Adenan at the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPP) briefing with the state government at Wisma Bapa here.

The briefing was chaired by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
