Adequate laws to combat terrorism, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: While the country’s existing laws are adequate to combat terrorism, the introduction of the National Security Bill will add further bite to the efforts.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the National Security Council Bill being debated in Parliament would also come in handy in further suppressing terrorist elements.

Speaking to reporters at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman, here, earlier today, Khalid said police will not hesitate to utilise all existing laws, including preventive acts, in their fight against terror.

"Of course we will use all laws available.

"We have enough laws at the moment, including the Prevention of Terrorism Act, Prevention of Crime Act and Security Offences (Special Measures) Act among others.

"But I believe the Act will help," he said.

Khalid was answering questions from the media on police’s efforts to fight terror activities, especially in the wake of last week's attack in Jakarta which left eight dead.
