Social media influencer quizzed over parody video allegedly ridiculing apex court ruling, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded a statement from social media influencer Dd Chronicle regarding a parody video alleged to ridicule the Federal Court's decision on the Kelantan Shariah enactment issue.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who confirmed the matter, said Dd Chronicle, whose real name is Dediy Sulaeman Ra'e, 43, was summoned to federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman last Thursday for the statement recording process.

"The suspect's conversation recording was taken at Bukit Aman's Classified Crime Investigation Unit at 10.15am last Thursday.

"The investigation into this case is being conducted under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 505 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said.

He said the complete investigation papers will be handed to the Attorney-General Chambers tomorrow.

Razarudin added that as of 8am today, a total of 49 police reports had been received against Dd Chronicle nationwide.

He said the highest number of police reports were filed in Johor with 12 reports, followed by five in Pahang, and four each in the federal capital, Melaka, Perak, and Selangor, three each in Sabah, Kelantan and Kedah.

Additionally, he said there were two reports, each in Negri Sembilan and Terengganu and one each in Perlis, Penang and Sarawak.

Earlier, a social media influencer was accused of ridiculing religion and insulting the court after uploading a parody video believed to be related to the Federal Court's decision to nullify 16 provisions in the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019, recently.

The three-minute, 55-second video depicted the influencer's performance with a script stating that actions such as drinking alcohol and gambling would not be punished.

His actions sparked criticism from netizens, with some urging authorities to take action against the individual.

It is understood that the social media influencer has publicly apologised.

"I'm aware that many have saved my parody video. I hope that just as many will also save this (apology) video," Dd Chronicle said in his recent video.

On Feb 9, the Federal Court ruled that 16 out of 18 provisions under the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment were unconstitutional.

She said neither Parliament nor state legislative bodies could enact laws beyond their list.

The constitutional challenge was initiated by Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid, a lawyer born in Kelantan, and her daughter, Tengku Yasmin Natasha Tengku Abdul Rahman, on May 25, 2022.
