Sabah DPP claims trial to corruption charges

TAWAU: A deputy public prosecutor claimed trial at the Sessions court here to two counts of corruption related to two cases she was handling at the Magistrate’s court.

In the first charge Kamalia Yahdi, 33, was accused of demanding RM50,000 cash as inducement to retract two trial cases against two individuals, Shang Yee Chew and Chang Fui Hsia, at the Promenade hotel here on May 15 last year at about 5pm.

In the second charge she was accused of agreeing to accept RM40,000 from the two individuals to retract the two cases at the same hotel on May 20 at about 9pm.

Also facing two counts of corruption was Chang Voon Kiat, 45, who allegedly acted on Kamalia’s behalf in demanding RM40,000 from Yee Chew at the Kuhara Court Apartments on May 20 at about 2.10pm and accepting the sum on the same day at about 10pm at the Promenade hotel.

The charges were framed under the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission Act 2009.

Judge Dean Wayne Daly set bail at RM10,000 in one surety for both the accused and trial management hearing on Feb 19.

The prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Norzilati Izhani Zainal @ Zainol and MACC Prosecuting Officer Awang Samsul Baharam Bungso.

The accused were unrepresented.
