Investigation papers on Sanusi's speech in Pelangai submitted to DPP

KUANTAN: Police have submitted the investigation papers on a statement by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor during the Pelangai by-election campaign to the state Deputy Public Prosecutors(DPP) office.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said police had wrapped up their investigations into Sanusi's remarks in Pelangai and the investigation papers were submitted to the DPP's office last month.

"Police recorded statements from five individuals and the matter has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor," he told reporters during a press conference at the Pahang police contingent headquarters here today.

Police had recorded Sanusi's statement at the Manchis police station in Bentong on Oct 7. Two police reports were lodged against Sanusi, who is also Pas elections director, over his remark following Ipoh Timur member of Parliament Howard Lee Chuan How's own interpretation of a Quranic verse.

Sanusi was probed under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 4A of the Election Offences Act 1954.

Meanwhile, Yahaya said 35 police reports had been lodged against social media postings for insulting Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail over his remark during the Pahang For Palestine Rally at the Kuantan City Council compound on Oct 28.

"The investigating officer is working closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission(MCMC) to analyse the content and the police are in the midst of gathering the data from MCMC to complete our investigations," he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

During the rally, Wan Rosdy had a slip of the tongue when he said 'Palestin hancur"(destroy Palestine) before immediately correcting the error and told the crowd he was a little too spirited with the chants as he wanted to say "Israel hancur".

The following day, Pahang communications and multimedia, youth, sports and non-governmental organisations committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal cleared the air saying Wan Rosdy clearly misspoke but some quarters had choose to spread the video around.
