Lee Chong Wei marches into Msia Masters GP Gold semis

GEORGETOWN: Former world No 1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei lived up to his billing as top seed by advancing to the semi-finals of the Malaysia Masters GP Gold today.

Chong Wei, playing in his first international tournament this year, defeated India’s Ajay Jayaram 21-16, 21-16 in the quarter-final at the SPICE Arena here in Penang.

The 33-year-old local favourite, will play Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto tomorrow.

Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin is the other Malaysian men’s singles through to the last four.

Iskandar, 25, upset world No 18 Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong 21-11, 21-15 in the quarter-final and is up against second seed K. Srikanth of India next.
