Sultan of Johor grants funds for development of new stadium and sports city

JOHOR BARU: The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has granted funds for the development of a new stadium and a Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) Sports City on a 28ha plot of land given by the state government.

State Secretary Datuk Ismail Karim said apart from being a venue for sporting events, the developments will include other facilities such as a JDT Shopping Mall, JDT Hotel and JDT Apartments, among other things.

"The Sultan of Johor has granted us the funds needed for the construction of the new stadium as well as an additional 28.3ha of land from the Johor State Government for the construction of a state-of-the-art JDT Sports City," he said in statement posted on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.

There was no mention on the amount of funds that Sultan Ibrahim agreed to give for the development.

Ismail, who is Johor FA president said that the JDT Sports City was part of plans by Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who had made a promise to ensure a better future for the state's football development.

Tunku Ismail is the owner of the JDT football club and royal patron of Johor FA.
