40 illegal immigrants rounded up in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 40 illegal immigrants - 37 Filipinos and three Indonesians - were nabbed during an integrated Ops Nyah exercise yesterday morning.

The operations, held at seven locations across the state capital known to be drug dens and squatter areas, also saw nine being held for drug offences.

The 10-hour raid from 1am, focused on squatter areas at Lembaga Padi Likas, Plaza Juta Likas, Mile 7 Jalan Tuaran, near Telipok town and Sembulan Lama as well as two construction sites in front of Likas Square and near Bukit Nenas.

"A total of 179 individuals were checked in the exercise that involved over 100 personnel from the police, general operations force, immigration, National Registration Department, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Kota Kinabalu City Hall and other agencies," said Kota Kinabalu city police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra.
