Restaurant denies serving Najib RM20,000 steak

KUALA LUMPUR: The management of Me’nate Steak Hub has denied claims that it served a 2kg slice of Matsusaka Wagyu beef, costing nearly RM20,000, to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

In an official statement yesterday, the restaurant made it clear that it had not catered any beef to Najib’s official residence, Seri Perdana in Putrajaya as claimed by several social media outlets.

“After conducting some checks, we conclude that the price tag (for the steak) is fake as the transaction could not be found in our inventory system.

“The price tag and accompanying note is not the same as the one used by Me’nate Steak Hub outlets. Our price tags come with their own bar codes and are different compared to the one that had gone viral,” the restaurant’s management said in a Facebook posting.

In a blog post that went viral last week, Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor were allegedly served with a 2kg slice of Matsusaka Wagyu beef for dinner, costing RM19,284.80.

The blog claimed the details of the purported dinner were revealed by one of Me’nate Steak Hub’s chefs, who was in charge of preparing the meal for Najib and Rosmah.

The blog posted what was claimed to be a receipt of payment, which bore the restaurant’s name. The post, however, made no mention of when the dinner the was held.

A picture of Najib and Rosmah being served by a chef was also circulated. The picture shows them enjoying a meal with a variety of dishes laid out on a table.

“The dishes displayed in the picture make no sense. If they (Najib and Rosmah) were eating Matsusaka beef, why was there rice and other dishes? The chef in the picture is not part of our staff,” said the restaurant’s management.

Me'nate Steak Hub urged all parties to stop dragging its name into politics, adding that it would not hesitate to lodge a police report over the matter if the accusations persisted.

“We are disappointed by act of certain irresponsible people who dragged us into this mess. We are getting legal advice and will be mulling legal action against those who had spread this falsehood.”
