Human skeletal remains found near abandoned slaughterhouse in Ayer Keroh

MALACCA: Police were called in to investigate the macabre discovery of a human skeletal remains scattered at an isolated road in Ayer Keroh on Wednesday.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said the remains were found at a bushy area near there Department of Veterinary Services, along Jalan Ayer Keroh Lama here.

He said police responded to a call from the member of the public and were led to an abandoned slaughterhouse.

There, they found the skeletal remains scattered along an isolated back road at 3.30pm.

"We found the skeletal remains of a human, believed to be of a man between 20 and 30-years-old.

"Based on the condition of the skeleton, we believe the remains were here for one to three months," he told reporters at the scene here, yesterday.

He said police have classified the case as sudden death as there were no reason to suspect foul play at the moment.

"We only found 70 per cent of the skeleton which was had been scattered.

"We have yet to find another 30 per cent of the remains.”

He said there were no other identification documents or personal belongings found at the scene other than a pair of denim trousers.

“Another T-shirt was found some 600-metres away from the scene but we cannot conclude that it belonged to the victim yet.

“We will carry out a DNA test to conclude this."

Meanwhile, Shaikh Abdul Adzis urged those whose family members or relatives had gone missing to contact investigating officer Chin Mui Chu at 019-6233410.
