Family plagued with mysterious fires offered PPRT house

KUALA TERENGGANU: A family plagued by numerous unexplained fires has been offered a home under the Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT) by the government.

State Health, Women's Development, Families and Communities committee chairman Datuk Muhammad Pehemi Yusof visited the family who experienced mysterious incidents where fires appeared and burnt items at their rental house in Kampung Losong Atap Zink here.

Pehemi said the head of the family, Azelan Abu Bakar, 59, had been offered monetary assistance under Tabung Darul Iman, but Azelan has to send an online application to the state government.

"We also offered him a house of under the Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT) at Taman Keluarga Warisan in Chendering, should the family intend to move out from the current rental house," he told reporters after handing over a personal donation to Azelan.

Pehemi spend about 30 minutes with Azelan and gave his moral support to the family in facing their ordeal.

It was learnt that Azelan, a stall helper, his wife Noraini Kamaruddin, 35, and his six children aged between six months and 15 years old, experienced the mysterious fires more than eight times.

Bedrooms, the kitchen, walls and cupboards caught fire mysteriously over the past three months.

Azelan said the last incident occurred on Sunday morning, when a fire razed his washing machine but it was doused several minutes later after being splashed with water.

"We appreciate the offer from the government, but Chendering is too far from my work place in Chabang Tiga market, and all of our children also schooling nearby. We need to consider this before moving out from the house," he said.
