11th Sarawak election on Apr 30?

KUCHING: Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem had no reservations about unveiling the proposed date for the upcoming state polls, shutting down months of speculation over the 11th Sarawak election.

Adenan, who is also Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the state government has proposed to the Election Commission(EC) for the upcoming polls to be held on April 30, which falls on a Saturday.

The state government, said Adenan, had also proposed to the commission that the nomination day for the Sarawak election to be held on April 18, which falls on Monday.

"I don't want to hide anymore. I want to announce that the nomination date (for the upcoming state polls) will be held on April 18 while the polling day is on April 30.

"What is the point of hiding (the date of the polls) since it will only fuel speculation.

"The dates are suggestions (by the state government) and I will seek the advice of the Election Commission on this matter," said Adenan in his speech during a seminar aimed at preparing Sarawak BN election machineries organised by the Satok Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu branch today.

Present were Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and State Tourism and Housing Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg.

Also in attendance was Adenan's wife Puan Sri Jamilah Anu.
