A million ringgit prize pool at Asean Games for Esports

The Asean Games for Esports (AGES) 2016, set to be held on 18 to 20 March, 2016 will offer an astonishing total prize pool of RM1,000,000, announced Esports Malaysia (ESM), the governing body for electronic sports in Malaysia said yesterday.

In the tournament's announcement event yesterday, Datuk Latt Shariman Abdullah, ESM's president highlighted that Malaysia today already had 14 million gamers playing various game titles. AGES will offer three titles, namely FIFA 16, CS:GO and Dota 2.

Cited as the biggest esports event in the region, AGES 2016 is expected to pit Malaysian teams against representatives from Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia.

Supported by the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Ministry of Communications & Multimedia and Ministry of Higher Education the event is organised and sponsored by Platinum Eden Sdn Bhd and Friends Worldwide. The event is also supported by ASEAN Esports Confederation (ACES) as part of the region's effort to unite gamers and develop esports.
