Leadership crisis at MIC is in the past: Saravanan

JOHOR BARU: The leadership crisis that plagued MIC is now in the past as the new party leadership has been well accepted by the Indian community, says MIC Central Working Committee member Datuk M. Saravanan.

Saravanan said the Indian community had shown their acceptance of the new party leaders which saw Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam assuming the party president's post following a power struggle that split the party.

"The Indian community's unity is now restored with the mutual consensus that Subramaniam is the man to steer the party as president," he said after attending the Johor Baru Ponggal celebration in Jalan Ungku Puan here.

The celebration was jointly organised by the Little India Culture Association, Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devastanam Hindu temple and the Johor Baru MIC division.

Saravanan said the priority of the party now is to maintain the unity and loyalty of the members towards the party in championing the interests of the Indian community and improving their standard of living.
