Leadership crisis at LTAT: Did the chairman retire or resign?

KUALA LUMPUR: A day after Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT)  said its chairman General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor had retired, the Business Times has learnt that Raja Mohamed Affandi had instead resigned.

The Business Times sighted Raja Mohamed Affandi's letter to Defence Ministey secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak stating that he had resigned.

LTAT in a statement on Thursday announced that Raja Mohamed Affandi had retired effective immediately.

LTAT declined to comment on the matter when contacted.

The announcement came days after LTAT took pains to dispel news that its chief executive Datuk Ahmad Nazim Abdul Rahman's resignation was due to the delayed restructuring of Boustead Holdings Bhd.

Raja Mohamed Affandi was appointed as LTAT's chairman in 2021.

His departure came just a week after Ahmad Nazim tendered his resignation, a move which was reportedly brought about by a decision to put Boustead Holdings' restructuring plan on hold with the arrival a new Minister of Defence.

Datuk Khaled Nordin was appointed following a cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year.

Former Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan had told Parliament in October last year that the restructuring of Boustead group was needed, which has liabilities of RM6.8 billion, to resolve legacy issues and transform LTAT into a sustainable retirement fund.
