Five squatter houses in Kg Pantai Dalam destroyed in fire

KUALA LUMPUR: Five squatter houses in Kampung Pantai Dalam, here, were razed while four others were badly damaged in a blaze earlier today.

The noon incident at Jalan Kubur left at least nine families of locals and Indonesian immigrants homeless.

City Fire and Rescue Department senior operations commander Husaini Mahidin said they received a call on the incident at 12.04pm.

"Following the call, we despatched 42 firemen with six fire engines, including a water tanker, to the scene.

"The response team from Pantai, Hang Tuah, Pudu, Cheras and Seputeh stations reached there at 12.12pm, and they managed to control the blaze at 12.41pm," he told reporters at the scene.

He said the four squatter houses sustained about 70 per cent damage, while two cars were also destroyed in the fire.

Meanwhile, Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said she has contacted Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor to request for permission to use the Lembah Pantai Community Centre to house the victims temporarily.
