Woman with appendicitis flown via MMEA helicopter to Kuantan hospital

KUANTAN: A 28-year-old woman diagnosed with appendicitis was flown from Pulau Tioman in a mercy flight by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) today.

Noor Herayani Zakilia, 28, from Kampung Tekek, Tioman was flown in an Agusta AW139 helicopter to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here about 2.45pm.

The woman had complained of stomach pain about 11.30pm on Monday before her husband Azri Alias, 28, brought her to the Tekek health clinic today morning.

A doctor confirmed she was suffering from appendicitis and required immediate surgery.

MMEA Eastern Maritime Region enforcement chief First Admiral Datuk Mamu Said Alee said the agency's air unit based in Subang deployed an helicopter to the island about noon.

He said the flight landed at the Kuantan Municipal council field in Kemunting before Noor Herayani was taken to HTAA in an ambulance.
