No action against Pas assemblyman who wore Chinese deity costume at CNY event

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Pas will not recommend for action to be taken against one of its assemblymen who came dressed as a Chinese deity during a Chinese New Year event.

State Pas commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad said Paya Jaras assemblyman Mohd Khairuddin Othman, who was garbed in a Chinese deity costume at the event in Wangsa Maju, has already apologised.

"Mohd Khairuddin has apologised and given his explanation. I am satisfied with his answer. I believe the party's Ulama Council would not take action.

"It is just a confusion. He thought the clothes he wore was an emperor's clothes but some said otherwise," he said.

On Monday, Khairuddin who is also the Selangor Pas secretary, had arrived at the event garbed as one of the Eight Immortals in the Taoist pantheon.

However, he said he did not realise that the costume had to any spiritual elements, and had thought that it was just a traditional costume. He was later told by guests of his mistake.
