Sarawak CM assures flood situation under control

KUCHING: Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has assured that the flood situation here is under control despite the continuous downfall over the past few days.

Speaking to the reporters after attending a briefing on the flood condition at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here, he said rainfall is expected to pick up again next week but the situation will not be as bad as before.

“The situation is under control. We are expecting rain again in the next week. There will be high and low tide but it is not as bad as it was recently.

“We hope there will be less rainfall and the Kuching barrage could still hold and control the water flow,” he said.

Adenan said currently there are more than 5,600 flood evacuees in Kuching, Bau and Serian.

“The state government will assist the victims sheltered at the relief centres,” he added.

He also said the flood situation as of this morning has improved.
