KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah was today appointed the new state Umno Liaision Committee chairman, replacing Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
The appointment was announced by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a statement this morning.
In the statement, Tengku Adnan also said Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid has been appointed as the committee’s deputy chairman, also effective today.
On Feb 3, Mukhriz had stepped down as Kedah Menteri Besar but had left it to Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Razak to decided on his fate as the state Umno Liaision Committee chairman.
Ahmad Bashah, who was previously the state Umno Liaision Committee deputy chairman, was sworn in as the MB on Feb 4.
In his statement this morning, Tengku Adnan also extended his appreciation to Mukhriz for his previous role as Kedah Umno Liaision Committee chairman.
