Mentally-ill man who stabbed own mother found wandering in Pandan Indah

KUALA LUMPUR: Police today arrested a man who was believed to have stabbed his mother in the stomach in an incident at Setapak Jaya on Monday.

The suspect, aged 21, was nabbed by a team of policemen on patrol at Pandan Indah about 1am.

City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the man, who has a history of mental illness, was wandering around the Pandan Indah area when the police team from Ampang Jaya police headquarters found him.

The suspect was taken into custody when checks found that he was wanted for the assault case.

Zainuddin said the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon.

Police are expected to secure a remand order against the suspect by today.

On Monday evening, a religious school teacher was seriously hurt when she was stabbed and slashed by her son at their house in Jalan Rejang 2.

The 8pm incident saw the 50-year-old victim sustain a deep stab wound in her stomach and slash wound on her forehead.

Wangsa Maju police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif was quoted as saying that the main suspect was the victim's 21-year-old son, who is a psychiatric patient.

The victim was reported to be in stable condition after undergoing surgeries at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. She is warded at the hospital's intensive care unit.
